Bin Laden Is Dead, Cheney Did It

Bin Laden Is Dead, Cheney Did It

FoxNews.com is trumpeting that "Gitmo Played Role In Bin Laden Death" and, "Cheney Says Enhanced Interrogation Probably Led to Bin Laden Death". Sure, and Donald Trump's hair is the key to our national security. Former co-president Cheney, if you recall, was clear in his assessment that Obama had made the United States less safe by ending the use of enhanced interrogation. [Read the rest of this article...]

Monday Musings: April 25, 2011

Monday Musings: April 25, 2011

Happy Easter everyone! Or perhaps Joyous Passover, Wondrous Equinox, Merry Earth Day! After a weekend with family, this is just another Monday here at the Pigeon Post. Another Monday means the beginning to another week of political tomfoolery, television trickery, and sports unspectaculars. The powers that be have never been know for creativity (unless it be creative ways to take more of your money and spend it stimulating their economy); this spring is no different. Monday Musings: January 10, 2011

Everything I had planned this weekend went up in smoke, but I am finding it hard to complain about much this evening. The plans, and lives, of so many others were shattered Saturday morning in Tucson, Arizona. I spent much of the weekend exchanging thoughts, and the occasional angry word, with political friends and associates regarding our nation's political tone. Is angry rhetoric linked to violence? If so, are the purveyors of such rhetoric directly responsible for the deaths on Saturday? I think the truth of the matter lies somewhere to the calm side of blame and retribution. Decision 2012: The GOP Candidates Stake Their Claims

Decision 2012: The GOP Candidates Stake Their Claims

But why dwell on the rank ignorance of a once proud institution of our democracy, when we can focus instead on the pure comedy of those who Republican primary voters will have to choose a standard-bearer from in two years? It may be something like a NASCAR fan watching a wreck on the high oval, but what the heck! So hear we go...live from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California (if he is still conservative enough in two years time); its the first GOP Presidential Debate for the 2012 Primary! Take it away, Chris Wallace! [Read the rest of this article...]

Mike On Sports: Weird Thinking and the NFL

Mike On Sports: Weird Thinking and the NFL

In the strange television dominated world of the NFL, many decisions are made solely on individual perceptions of ability completely removed from the measurable statistics of the player. When the right commentator, ex-coach, or columnist tells the right audience that a player is good, no amount of bad stats will change the minds of the average sports fan. When the same sources decide a player is poor, the reaction from the fans, at the stadiums and on sports talk radio, is ruthless. In the ultimate team sport, players and coaches are anointed as successful, whether the stats support the benediction or not. [Read the rest of this article...]

Working Christmas

Working Christmas

I have family that expressed outrage over the local convenience store being open on Jesus' birthday, and have heard more and more political figures who concur. On reflection, I suppose this whole line of thinking is an off-shoot of the conservative notion of culture war; liberals and other enemies of God are attacking Christmas as a part of their evil scheme to secularize the world. On this notion, the 20% of Americans who are either politically active conservative Christians or militant atheists fail to account for the fact that the rest of the country wants them both to shut up! Confessions Of The Monumentally Stupid

Confessions Of The Monumentally Stupid

Humans often say very foolish things; politicians are defined by their general inability to always say very foolish things. As we come to the end of an earth-shattering week of political tomfoolery, I think its important we chronicle some of the best of the dumbest. There is no doubt that this Confessions of the Monumentally Stupid has a very good chance to be the first Confessions of the Monumentally Stupid. Let's hope so; they are only too easy to write. It’s Obama’s Fault, Again

It’s Obama’s Fault, Again

The news of the week suggests that liberals now want to drink from the same vat of Kool-Aid. A slew of interest groups have spent 2010 lining up for the chance to punch the President; pass my greatest legislative fantasy, or I will declare you a failure, or a coward, or a charlatan, and send you back to the wilderness. Please note also that every liberal dream is always the most important liberal dream. Environmental liberals, LGBT activists, anti-poverty advocates, the Darfur crowd, union protectionists...no more are they forced to argue over who has a seat at the head of the table. If the President is unable to make all of their wishes come true (within one 22 month period), then the lobbies vast will tear out his throat and leave him to [Read the rest of this article...]

The Labyrinth Of Liberal Foreign Policy

The Labyrinth Of Liberal Foreign Policy

Liberals have a terrible reputation on foreign policy matters. They are also often bitter that Republicans can get away with mistakes in the foreign policy arena that would quickly sink a liberal. Just try and imagine the national mood had Democrat Al Gore been at the helm of the nation when 9/11 occurred. When the Christmas bombing failed in 2009, President Obama was quickly lambasted by his critics in a jumpy nation, but back on 9/11, we heard Mayor Rudy "9/11" Giuliani say that he felt glad that a Republican was in charge when we came under attack.
