Judge Lifts Stay on Gay Marriages: Ceremonies Can Begin on August 18th

Joined Forever

In a one paragraph news update the New York Times reported at roughly 4 pm EDT today that Judge Vaughn Walker lifted the ban, and his temporary stay, on gay marriages in California. Walker’s stay was to allow him to consider the matter of allowing gay marriages to go forward after both plaintiffs’ and defendants’ council in the matter had a chance to submit their briefs. It should be noted California sided with the plaintiffs stating they could see no harm in allowing gay marriages to proceed. Judge Vaughn Walker’s decision opens the way for thousands of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual couples across the state to marry beginning next Wednesday, August 18th. It can only be hoped more states will follow the example set by California and do away with bigoted laws that prevent the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual populations within their states from marrying.
